How Does Chiropractic Work?
The human body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism that is controlled by the nervous system. Messages originate in the brain and flow through the spinal cord to every cell, tissue, organ and system in our body. Improper motion or positioning of the vertebrae can interfere with this communication and result in some type of malfunction (symptom). Chiropractors remove this interference thereby restoring control to the nervous system and allowing the healing process to occur.
Who Can Benefit From Chiropractic?
Interference to our nervous system and healing potential can occur at various stages of life. Often the very first problem develops at birth due to a difficult or long delivery. Add to that years of childhood falls, sporting injuries, postural changes and emotional stress. Because any or all of these things can create a problem, chiropractic can benefit all members of your family, from the youngest to the oldest. Obviously, techniques for newborns are very different from those used on adults, but the goal is the same - to keep the nervous system free from interference so that you can live a long and healthy life.
Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?
Absolutely! A study conducted by the government of New Zealand found that adjustments are "remarkably safe", approximately 100 times safer than taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. To rule out any type of complication, a thorough history and exam are performed and techniques are custom tailored for each individual.
How Long Until I Feel Better?
Many factors affect the healing process. Things like how long the problem has existed, your age, your level of overall health and your trauma history will all impact recovery time. Some individuals experience almost instant relief while others will take weeks or months before significant change is seen.
How Long Will I Need Chiropractic Care?
How long you receive care depends upon your individual health goals. Some people merely want pain relief, while others are looking to discover new levels of health. We will discuss the various options with you and develop a care plan that meets your personal needs.
